Trump inauguration: Police, Biafrans clash in P/Harcourt
Members and supporters of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in support of the inauguration of Donald Trump as US President on Friday clashed with men of the security operatives during a rally in support of Trump, reports have said.
According to the BBC, the pro-Biafra members, who converged in Port Harcourt the Rivers State Capital from different states of the eastern and southern Nigeria, were confronted by men with military trucks and tanks and prevented from proceeding into Port Harcourt main town.
Reports indicate many members of the group, mostly women and youths, were injured when the soldiers opened fire to disperse the procession. Traffic and commercial activities were paralysed in parts of Port Harcourt during the military operation to stop the rally.
However, pro-Biafran news outlets have reported that about 10 people have been killed but police in Port Harcourt have denied any killing. They say they merely employed minimal action.
